Tamsin Embleton Talks Future of Tour Wellness with Spin Magazine

Spin Magazine highlights MITC’s “essential guide to surviving life on the road.”

We are excited to share that our founder, Tamsin Embleton, was recently featured in Spin Magazine, discussing the “essential guide to surviving life on the road” – Touring and Mental Health: The Music Industry Manual.

Written by Lily Moayeri, the article highlights the Manual’s six unique sections: Background; Relationships; Anxiety, Depression and Crisis Management; Stress, Trauma, Addiction and Eating Disorders; Bodily Health; and Self-Care, Preparation and Recovery.

Moayeri acknowledges that both versions of the Manual (physical vs. audiobook) provide their own unique value – the physical acting as a handy reference book and the audio version feeling “like being in a therapy session.”

The article also highlights the many contributors featured in the Manual, including Nile Rodgers and Taylor Hanson (Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Guns N’ Roses) and Nick Cave, who contributed to the audiobook version. Embleton goes on to share the full scale of resources offered by MITC and what she hopes is in store for the future of wellness in the touring world.

At a minimum, I would like to see a dedicated welfare role on each tour. Someone advocating for the health and welfare of performers and crew from the planning stage to delivering shows on tour (like we do for health and safety). I would love to see regulation around schedules, including off days so that they are ringfenced and not turned into travel days or press days.
