TPi Magazine Spotlights MITC in Dua Lipa Tour Profile

TPi Magazine has featured our very own Touring Welfare Officer, Sascha Heeney, in their tour profile of Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism tour.

Sascha has over 30 years experience in live music, working with agents, promoters, and venues. For the last half, she has specialised in complex care as a psychiatric nurse, bringing clinical expertise to high-pressure environments. In 2024, Sascha became MITC’s dedicated tour Welfare Officer, joining Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism tour.

This first-of-its-kind role provides performers and crew with a trusted advocate, consisting of confidential check-ins, psychological support, and restorative activities during rest periods. The clients are also additionally supported by senior psychologists and psychotherapists from the Music Industry Therapist Collective.

TPi Magazine, which covers live event design, technology, and production, took the time to shine a light on this ground-breaking new role and service on a major tour.

Author Jacob Waite writes, “A demonstration of the camp’s innovative approach was the addition of Welfare Officer… ‘Touring is a microcosm that functions in a particular way. But it’s a long time to be away from your friends and family, so we try to emphasise that the emotions crew experience are totally justified and valid. A lot of the responses were that they felt empowered, able to communicate their feelings, manage stress, had a better working culture, and a greater sense of belonging – they didn’t feel so alone,’ [Heeney] explained.”
